To Clarify, The Wasteland is no longer the repository of my brain waste....
So I decided to get back in the swing of things, artistically. I'm a shit writer so the only way to be even readable is to practice, for Chanukkah last year my cousin hooked me up with a .com on wordpress which is fucking rad and maybe one the best holiday gifts ever.
The trouble is that Blogspot, blogger, or whatever they call this thing is being OBS'd, so to fight back, I can't use Open ID to make secure comments on blogspot blogs..and that's a messed up way to fight back cuz then I have to give up my g+ in order to sign and post comments here....I certainly don't want to sign as The Wasteland, because this blog is an archive from my Cal Poly days...that was a decade ago! See if I sign as ......(hmm will they even allow me link the URL from here? or even type the letters? ...

Then I suppose that would be a backlink from blogger TO Wordpress, if you google how to sign as yourself on blogspot comments if youre using wordpress, all those forum topics are now closed ... they're going to end up in court over this shit! Obviously I immediately searched for a hack, but it's not that important so I wrote some javascript, blogger gave me some "unable to authenticate OpenID" bullshit so I gave up.
At the same time there is nothing to hide on my dumb g+, but I dont feel like giving it out to everyone, you know? I only signed up to do a favor for a fellow musician who asked me to review his latest vid on youtube, but as you prob know, no g+ ? no utoobe comment yo! so first I bitched, but he hassled me and I told him Ill sign up, but if your shit sucks I wont lie ... I can't ... He was trying script my comment so i explained that its an SPJ ethics violation which means if you ask me to be dishonest in print...bring a gun...cuz then you might have a chance. I'll rob a liquor store b4 I break rank in my own professional association.
Ill tell ya I love being a musician as well and my colleagues are OLD friends and most are light years beyond talented. but with that comes eccentricity...in HS we started more shit, fights, partied harder and did more dope than any other clique. Senior year I used to take a drop of acid almost every morning! hell, the only reason we don't kill each other is that, though many of us are prone to violence I am not aware of any musician in my circles that has actually committed a murder. Otherwise I'd have not lived past 17 or when my buddy asked me to hype his band knowing full well that for a Journalist that's a shred away from kid-touching...I wouldve just strangled him on the spot. (thats as many horrid felonies I can cram into one 'graph so let'/s move on).
If you are reading this at all...it means you are supposed to go to tapper7.com!!!! if you want fresh prose from the horses mouth? You gotta scope it out over there. I'm putting most of my energy into that one site...because the readership growth is unreal, and I dont spam, buy ads, plug it much, pay for some stupid seo or even the site...it's all a hack, even Google Analytics...I favored to figure out the jscript to make it run (it's only like 15 lines of code it took me one hour) otherwise it's 30 bucks a month...fuck YOU google.

Cosmos 2014 ... let's talk.
Teaching is in my blood, my parents are both accomplished, expert educators. My father specializes in drawing&painting, additive/subtractive sculpture, photography and Art History - from the jr. HS to the university level. My mother is unparalleled in child development education (pre-K to 6th). I have zero education or certification to teach, but if I know how to do something? I can teach it to you. I can make you better than me at it if u want.
My most influential teacher...I never met. But I've read every book he ever wrote, his biography and I can quote from his epic PBS mini-series ad nauseum....

Being teachers, I must thank the 'rents for encouraging my interest in science and math. But Carl's words (I read Cosmos before ever seeing or hearing him) turned interest into passion, fascination to obsession. Carl intended Cosmos to make cutting edge cosmology, astronomy, planetary science, relativity, even theoretical physics...accessible to everyone. Even the illiterate audience can watch the series, connect and understand. I read it cover to cover, in one sitting, as a 3rd grader. Since ive read Cosmos 100s of times.
Using his example, I can prove, to ANYONE that as you travel faster, time slows down. The best speech I ever gave was an upper-division world history lecture I gave regarding the power of logic, reason, and rational thought to protect, advance and proliferate the human race. My audience was other upper-div Cal Poly students, the majority of them pre-med, architecture, engineering and liberal arts. I culled his story about how an Egyptian named Eratosthanes used nothing more than basic algebraic and geometric axioms to measure the circumference of the earth... well over 2000 years ago, when a "round earth" was still absurd to the general public. I went to work on the black board, a big round earth, a lil stick figure Eratosthanes..., his sticks, his shadows, his observations, his measurements arrows to show the sunlight striking all these things. Every audience member was gripped. They could follow my diagrams and math perfectly. They know that if we assume the measurements are close (they were almost exact), That the earth is round (...), and that rays of sunlight strike the earth in parallel (they do) then the circumference of the entire planet is apparent...obvious...plain as day.*
I waited for someone to call me out on it... "you read that in Cosmos, right?" No one did. But the excitement I had to convey a historical annecdote in a lecture, with the passion and conviction of Carl in his element; lecturing undergraduates in a way that made science and math, fascinating, fun, to be able to fill jaded, over worked, over tired, undergrads with childlike wonder...to get the Ag major in blue jeans and a cowboy hat excited...about GEOMETRY! That's a wonderful feeling.
Of course, I'm lecturing to a captive audience, all highly educated and likely to find theorums, axioms, and inductive reasoning, well...interesting. I said I can explain general and special relativity to anyone, but I cant make them give a shit. Carl also had a special form of synergy when Cosmos came out...we had an active space program. 'murica was #1 in space, #1 in technology, Astronauts were hereoes, celebrities, household names. Apollo missions were followed minute by minute. Associated research brought about revolutionary technology; materials engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, computer engineering...the vast majority of the technology we take for granted are simply one-offs from all the research and ingenuity it took to put Neil and Bud's boots on that dead rock.
Carl had the perfect storm of culture, society and politics to make science fun. Kids wanted to be astronauts! It was cool to be educated. Acing a test didnt make u a cheat, a nerd or teacher's pet...it meant respect. Knowledge was an asset...sadly it is drifting back to the liability category. Science and math threatens those deeply grounded in fundamentalist religion. It always has and always will threaten those lacking in avg intelligence (that's half of us btw....4 billion give or take).
Just a few hundred years ago, saying the earth revolved around the sun could get you killed, ask Galileo. The Great Library at Alexandria, the crossroads of culture, language, engineering, the arts, trade and above all, innovation, ideas and theories...was burned to the ground by zealots in fear the knowledge contained therein would destroy their way of life. Hand written books on medicine, hydraulics, biology, cartography, linguistics were found...we can only speculate what burned.**
2011. Not a good year. My fiance had a cancer relapse early on, she would only make it a few days into 2012. Economic downturn led to another round of lay offs at work...my seniority had shielded me in 08, 09, 10 ...but few got past that one. I watched the Colombia land for the last time that year. The administration placed our space pgm on hold indefinately, citing budget shortfalls.
Seemed natural...I'm broke, so is the government...if I cant fill my gas tank, how can NASA fill the escape-velocity stage rocket fuel tanks? I thought of Carl as I watched the Colombia slip into the shadows of its hangar, perhaps for the last time. It bothered me. I pictured Carl watching w/ me...he was tearing up....THAT made me cry. It would break his heart to know that we have to thumb a ride w/ France, Japan or Canada, to even leave low earth orbit. Exploring the solar system is on standby. I'm not sure I can express how tragic that is for this country, and for the human race. To explore is to be human...that's what we do! If we stop? Idk...we NEVER stopped, till now.
The synergy Carl had in the 70s can't be recreated, but the people he inspired (top of the list today is Theoretical Physicist Neil Degrasse Tyson and Writer/Animator/Comedian Seth MacFarlane) Tyson tonite will attempt to capture that feeling and childlike wonder so crucial to our very survival. Watching a brief interview w/ Seth made it clear that Carl had the same effect on him as me, the difference is that he has the $ and the pull to get this 2014 Cosmos series not only DONE - but set to air on FOX - in primetime. I'm not expecting social or political change to result, but it's heartwarming that people still care.
As far as the space program is concerned it's not about lack of $...its about how that $ is allocated. It was Tyson himself who once said on Real Time w/ Bill Maher that if you took all the $ we spent in afghanistan, if you had a stack of $100 bills equal to the price tag thus far. you could stack those bills from the ground to VENUS.***
RIP Carl, Cosmos is untouchable, whatever Seth and Neil and Ann came up with, it cant be your words so it cant be Cosmos. Still this writer is grateful for the effort.

It's bold, its insane, it might be frivolous....worst case? The Fed will have to loan us a TON of money...but as we've established...they love that. More debt = more gooder. Right? (leave it to me to end an attempt at intelligent prose w/ a lowest common denminator cliche like "more gooder"...I'm overdue for a beating, flogging, tasering, maybe a good shot from the ole 'lectric dart gun)

The banker spread the word that Napoleon had won, UK stocks and bonds crash...the banker buys it all up, the truth gets out, England is now worth trillions-said banker effectively OWNS England.
So the war wasnt about freedom...it was about "I will DIE before I keep payin u this bullshit!"
We won, but the banks didnt stop...they tried to kill Washington, Adams, Jefferson and Jackson COUNTLESS times (apparently it was harder to assassinate presidents back then) they dont stop, they try every angle; threats, coersion, bribes, blackmail, extortion, any tool to manipulate the creation of aprivate centralized BANK in the US. Ok, let's backup, ill list some facts, and strikethrough "unsubstantiated statements." Im going to show the pattern, add insight and move on. This writing exercise is supposed to limber me up for the real topic i want to post-next.

1. Fractional reserve banking allows banks to create money out of thin air - BUT IT ONLY WORKS IF THEY CONTINUOUSLY LEND MONEY.
2. The best client a bank can have is a government, a country, a sovereign state...ALL individuals and businesses are risky, but one way or another....countries ALWAYS PAY. (They have land, worst case scenario, u take that)
3. Countries borrow the most $ during loooong, sustained war.
4. More clients = more $
5. The Gulf of Tonkin incident was a LIE, it NEVER HAPPENED.
6. No official report exists stating that Iraq had WMDs or even raw materials for same.
Unsubstantiated, yet logical theories:
1. Let's skip the sinking of the Lusitania, ok? Ill assume it was torpedoed by The Kaiser, the american passengers fully aware that the hull contained supplies for the Allies, and we jumped up and threw ourselves into the "War to end all wars" SKIP IT.
2. 1941: FDR gets a call from ONI, Australian Allies and other sources saying, "Listen...uh, the japanese are gettin this force together, like a REALLY big one...and they're about to bomb pearl harbor into the stone age, so... u should...know that." FDR does nothing. then...BOOM!
3. WWII - shady as f---. this is where we get to banks (u decide which ones) lending $ to ALL SIDES. Rumors of American finance of National Socialism:IBM develops a punch card, vacuum tubed, analog database system for indexing "personnel" at "labor camps" ... Boeing fills purchase orders for fleets of passenger jets bound for Argentina, once there, the seats are stripped, the plane is weaponized and becomes a bomber fleet for the Luftwaffe. German tank factories - owned and operated by Henry Ford - Possible that Allied bombers had bogus intel on these sites...blacked out perhaps "don't bomb, civilian facility. "
4. Vietnam - never meant to be won. only sustained (sound familiar?) Why? see fact 1 above...so the banks can keep lending money! They dont give a fuck!
So lets get to the crux- forget the details about 9/11, who? what? where? when? just look at the historical pattern. We've been foolin around all over the middle east for 30 years! I'm not saying who did it Why they did it...none of that, just that it fits a pattern for guaranteed profit. Still going strong too.

Seal Team 6 effectively breached the residence, the suspect drew down on the extraction team, the suspect was killed in the exchange, after being positively id'd. He was given a respectful, burial at sea.
to quote (poorly) Patrice O'neal's interpretation of the press conference: "So you've got the FBI's number one, MOST WANTED criminal, in custody, so what do you do, you take one poorly lit, easily photoshopped kill pic....then you flush him down the ocean? Like you flush cocaine when the cops show up? Every time the FBI gets a big criminal, there's always the triumphant death shot.... ... bonnie n clyde... bullets all up in her face...and some cigar chompin dude with a tommy gun 'mwah! I killed the bitch see! mwah!!!' say what u want about a respectful muslim burial... it's just another detail to keep u bogged down and arguing about the small stuff instead of what's really going on. Now, dear Reader, far be it from me to enter the ***almost pointless*** political debates of the lumbering Elephant and the braying Donkey. An educated man can plainly see that the true "establishment" consists of about 55 percent conservative values and around about 45 percent liberal.
There are social aspects of the left AND of the right they want ... NEED if u will.
On the left they want a woman's right to choose, they want to keep nonviolent offenders out of jail,unemployment bennies, GR, Social Security, FDIC, =opp. and the like (all of which I happen to support). On the right you've got support for an ever-expanding military w/o regard to cost, decentralized govt, tax cuts for business and the upper-class...
There are aspects to BOTH sides that the Establishment wants - and so it goes. There are also aspects of this system that that I vehemently disagree w/....now that's a topic 4 another day.
Ultimately it is my concerted opinion that overall---- Rep/Dem is a joke. A smokescreen. One and the same. The media talks about a "2 party system" What we have in a America is a ONE party party system and have for some time. D-R is just a diversion, an illusion if u willto keep the truncheon busy; arguing over "issues" that get decided in the smoke-filled-rooms of the Elite; NOT @the ballot box, not in Congress and certainly not @1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.
Who has the control? Who is the Elite? What do they want? Again ... a topic 4 future discussion. The answers; I have. ;)
As long as I'm on the topic I try so hard to avoid ---- we NEED 2 GET GOVT OFF THE BACKS OF THE JOB CREATORS; SMALL BUSINESS, BIG BUSINESS, PEOPLE W/ $$$ TO CREATE JOBS. I PRAY FOR A RETURN TO TRUE-BLUE MKT. CAPITALISM. AMEN.

RIP Rich Skare ... 1 yr l8r ...
Rich Skare was a talented middlehorn player, soprano, contra, even the experimental “Meehaphone,” … sort of a hybrid French Horn/Fluegel bugle. It is this common love of drum corps that BROUGHT us together, but once we got to talking on treasure island ONE DAY ----- we became instant hetero-lifemates.
When I decided to march sr. corps (a graduation gift to myself), I booked a 2-night stay @ the Motel 6 on the Oakland side of the bridge (right on the water). Pretty, cheap …but also lonely.
The kindness and gratitude of The Renegades was immediately apparent to me @ my first camp. Betsy said I could bunk at her pad along w/ a few other “out-of-towners.” Which consisted of me and Pooh Bear. Mutual love of 5 octave baritone playing, jazz improv and achieving heights unheard of in solo/ens decibel lvls; PB n I were fast friends. Still I always felt like I was “mooching” when I quartered there and PB, God love him, those lungs of his move a LOT of air as we all know; hence his snoring could be akin to a skillsaw shredding pine.
By my 3rd camp, Skare said, “Tapper just crash at my pad.” I offered to compensate but he would Have none of that, “your presence is pymt enough.”
It’s a really special feeling when there’s someone who’s ALWAYS GLAD TO SEE YOU, ALWAYS CALLS WHEN APART, ALWAYS RETURNS PHONE CALLS AND IS SAD WHEN YOU LEAVE. That’s who Skare was to me. I’m the kind of guy that would rathr hav 3 really good friends than

In 2009 it was just that…. Skare and Dominique – those were the only two ppl I could count on…. The only 2 I would drive to the airport, help move, spend my last NICKEL ON …. U GET THE IDEA. They were all I needed and all I wanted.
I drew charicTURES of corps members during downtime. Skare loved them and decorated the Skarivini Lounge, asked me to draw MORE and PROUDLY displayed his “Tapper Cartoon Gallery” to guests, …

After graduating from Poly that summer, w/ my lease up @end of August … it was time to leave SLO 4evr (have not been baCK not even a drive-by since 2004. I was working for Entrée Express (Restaurant Delivery). I told the Ass Manager a MONTH in advance … “I need a week off in July. I have multiple performances in Chicago – plz mark it!”
So there we are, in DeKalb, sharing a massive grass field and HS w/

IT was my word against the Asshole licking AssMangr who had double my exp. My word against his. Feh … I was about to quit anyways….
So with about 6 weeks left on my lease. Tour 2.0 in full swing. And me no longer a student or a taxpayer in SLO. It was time to pack out that shithole and head greener cleaner pastures.
Skare invited me to move in w/o me even having to ask. He also refused to accept rent$. Roland and I worked odd jobs; landscaping, painting and professional brass gigs (thx to Nalls 4 the referral and Dave Landers for an “orchestral” trombone … large bore, F-attachment … my tbn is for lead/solo jazz performance).
Still … these odd jobs left me w/ days where I had $$ to burn … and days where I picked cigarettes out of ashtrays.
AGAIN – Skare to the rescue.
He got me a job as Office Mgr. @ CleanwayUSA Carpet Cleaning. The pay was low but he was letting me live rent-free. My only bill was my cellph.
I liv*d w/ Skare at the Lounge for just ovr 1 yr. Health problems forced my departure … but good ol’ Skare never let a month go by w/o a HELLO. He never judged me. He always lifted me up. I could never tell u how many x I was sad, lonely, panicking or suffering and “Nerrrr…” would popup on my phone.
If there was nothing to say, no news, gossip, changes or scandals …. We would just “Nerrr…” “Nyuuuuer…” *Wookie Noise* “I [something] them” and sign off with a “Well talk to ya l8r you stupid fat retard of indeterminate-race.”
